Rethink

After having time to ponder the ideas further for the full stretch they could have, a few quite important thoughts came to light.

Self promotion project: Last year this was the clear winner for double project, however it became at a disadvantage on the discovery of the creative professional practice module. Theres still much that can be done for self promotion, however the identity design assessment for the cpp module is in semester 2. A planning knightmare, honestly i can't quite get my head around.

Amir project: What possibilities, a very good project to be onboard, but in control, excellent.
Plenty of tasks for a double project. A couple of negatives I have on mind. Firstly the client Dr M.Amir is a associate, whom I have already done some work for, hes tough but educational to work along side with, the problem is that he is my doctor. I'm not aware if there is any breaches there or thin boundaries? Secondly and harder to define would be the clients copyright status and how it ties into ownership, am I right to believe any work you produce within university the university own or have some power over?

Design for learning: When I saw this module my opinion of it, was much of fright, a very large research based module. then when I found out that this wasnt part of my 3rd year, I was surprisingly disappointed, gutted even. I had to include it on my list, a real challenge but real worthwhile. Problem, the artifact will have to be completed sooner than the modules plan in order to test and evaluate the artifact.

Brainstorming conclusions

From my brainstorming sessions a few ideas stood out. The clear contenders were:

  • Self Promotion project.
  • Amir project.
  • Design for learning project.

Self promotion project: Would include creating a portfolio website/dvd, a showrreel, identity design, small new projects, a blog. Then advertisement on a innercity scale, design for publications, award entrys and towards a stunning end of year show.

Amir project: Identity design and promotion. Collaborations on large websites for professionals. Brochure and book cover design, interactive dvd/ ebook design. Finally a report of future development possibilities.

Design for learning: Allong the lines of the current module in place, however I think I can extend the design further. Ill break it up into two main segments- research, development an completion of the artifact then testing and evaluation of the artifact. Very researched based but with room for some creativity in the final package. Possibly a piece of work, that would have me taken seriously as a designer.

What Ideas

Playful ideas for interaction, a few of many I've come across. The ones that are not wifi, GPS, or touchscreen, which there are many at the moment.

Interactive clothing, a little cheesy the thought, however I do like the look of the items in the photo on the left and for certain scenarios it might be a real show stunner, maybe more for the catwalk than for the highstreet.

I like this, although their idea needs more than
just a couple of colours, for friends as well as just couples. But I do like, it works well. Great conversation starter, good for more than a home. Could work in other environments such as bars, stores, gallerys, showrooms and etc, without the counselling of course.

First post

HI EVERYBODY VISITING

This weblog has been set up as a medium to illustrate my independent study research and reflection for the Double project module.

As I'm a deferred student, for those who dont know me

  • I love illustration
  • I can watch cartoons all day
  • My favourite movies are , Spirited away, Howls moving castle and Little miss sunshine.
  • My plan is to do a masters in user centered design (if this year goes well).
  • Katie Kaboom is the identity name I use for my design work, its deprived from an avery cartoon, but to me it represents my strong will and determination.
  • Favourite software: Illustrator, Flash, photoshop and Snag it (an image/movie retrieval tool).
